On May 4, 5 and 6, took place the Regional Youth Workshop, an initiative of UNESCO IESALC that is part of the project The Futures of Higher Education, which includes consultations with young people. The aim of these consultations is to contextualize and deepen conversations between young people from different backgrounds regarding their future education.

In Latin America and the Caribbean, the workshops were held in Caracas, Venezuela, with the participation of 31 students in their final year of secondary and technical education, from the public schools Unidad educativa Colegio Alianza Fe y Alegría, Liceo Bolivariano Julio Bustamante and Centro Educativo Andy Aparicio Fe y Alegría.

During the activities, facilitated by UNESCO IESALC specialists, the young people shared their ideas about their next steps in education, as well as about global higher education towards 2050.

At the end of the team dynamics and the exchange of opinions, their hopes and concerns and ideas about education were recorded as part of an audiovisual production that is part of the World Higher Education Conference 2022, to be held in Barcelona, Spain.

Some thoughts from the youths

I would like education to be much better than it is today. Currently in our country, Venezuela, the education is not very good and I would like the next generation to have a better one and that the teachers are better paid.

Yulian del Valle López

What I hope the most for the future is that education reaches everyone, forming new boys and girls who have the need to create a better world.

José Alejandro Corredor

I want education to be of quality, accessible to all people and that the governments support all students and teachers

Jonathan Achundia

I would like HE to be free and of quality for everyone who wishes to pursue it without having to think about their economy or the discrimination they may suffer, whether it be for ideology, religion, race, sexual orientation or any of those reasons

Víctor León

By giving us the tools, higher education will help us to have a better society

Scarleth Brumely Cortez Prieto

It is the future, I hope that people will be prepared, people with values, people who are not afraid of change, people who are not afraid to bet and who are not afraid to fulfill their dreams and that they can achieve everything they want.
