The director of UNESCO IESALC, Francesc Pedró, met with the rector of the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC), Julio Sánchez Mariñez and the advisor, Altagracia López, Coordinator of the Center for Innovation in Higher Education (CINNES) of INTEC, to discuss the importance of the participation of the Dominican institution in the next World Conference on Higher Education (WHEC2022).

During the meeting, they shared information about the actions being developed by UNESCO IESALC in preparation for the celebration of WHEC2022, to be held in Barcelona (Spain) from May 18-22, and the relevance of the rector’s contribution to deepen in resolving pending issues, as well as to establish collaborative networks that contribute to overcoming the asymmetries of higher education systems.

The importance of the ratification -only one more ratification of a State member is needed- of the New Regional Convention for the Recognition of Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean was also highlighted. Afterwards, they visited the center’s facilities to see the laboratories of genetics, soil and construction materials; Industrial processes; Hass Technical Center, and the Industrial Design workshops and the Makerpace.
