National Web Seminar “Situation of Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean. IESALC Report Covid-19 and Higher Education: Today and Tomorrow”

The United Nations System, within the framework of its Response Plan to the Covid-19 in the Dominican Republic, the Regional Bureau for Culture in Latin America and the Caribbean – Cluster Office to Cuba, Dominican Republic and Haiti, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (MESCyT), the UNESCO International Institute for Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (IESALC), the Dominican Republic’s Academia for the Agenda 2030 alliance and the ODS Commission, are joining forces to carry out a series of virtual meetings to reflect on the impact of the current health emergency on Dominican higher education. The United Nations System, within the framework of its Response Plan to the Covid-19 in the Dominican Republic, the Regional Bureau for Culture in Latin America and the Caribbean – Cluster Office to Cuba, Dominican Republic and Haiti, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (MESCyT), the UNESCO International Institute for Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (IESALC), the Dominican Republic’s Academia for the Agenda 2030 alliance and the ODS Commission, are joining forces to carry out a series of virtual meetings to reflect on the impact of the current health emergency on Dominican higher education.

In this first webinar, the results of the IESALC’s report on Covid-19 will be presented, through which the immediate impacts of the pandemic on the university higher education sector are analyzed. The actions taken by governments and HEIs to guarantee the right to education during the health emergency, as well as their recommendations for the reopening of institutions in the sector, will also be disseminated.

The keynote speech will be delivered by José Antonio Quinteiro Goris, the programme coordinator at UNESCO’s IESALC.
