As part of the events leading up to UNESCO Third World Higher Education Conference #WHEC2022, an event that will re-formulate ideas and practices that guarantee sustainable development in higher education, the UNESCO International Institute for Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (IESALC), together with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the Organization of Ibero-American States (OEI),  Santander Universities and the Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB), will carry out a consultation for Latin America and the Caribbean that will collect the voices of the different interest groups related to higher education on the ten key issues that will be addressed at the World Conference.

The program consists of a cycle of activities which includes 10 webinars on the following ten key issues related to higher education: the impact of covid-19; the sustainable development goals; inclusion; curricular quality and relevance; academic mobility; governance; financing; data and knowledge production; international cooperation to improve synergies; and preparing for the futures of higher education.

Each of the 10 webinars will feature a presentation by an expert on the key topic, and panels with representatives from the government sector and key stakeholders in higher education. Details of the program are available on the event’s website.

In addition, a public consultation has been organized by which the general public will be able to share ideas and opinions on the challenges and opportunities presented by the ten key issues in higher education.

Higher education stakeholders in the region interested in organizing similar events in preparation for #WHEC2022 can contact us  at a.blancas@unesco.org for suggestions on how to do so. You are also invited to share your initiative on social media to amplify the voices of Latin America and the Caribbean at #WHEC2022.
