YouthLead Innovation Spotlight on World Youth Skills Day

14 July, 2023 hora: 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

In 2014, the United Nations General Assembly declared 15 July as World Youth Skills Day, to celebrate the strategic importance of equipping young people with skills for employment, decent work and entrepreneurship.

The theme for World Youth Skills Day 2023 is Skilling teachers, trainers and youth for a transformative future. It highlights the essential role that teachers, trainers and other educators play in providing skills for youth to transition to the labour market and to actively engage in their communities and societies.

As part of the celebration, the hybrid event YouthLead Innovation Spotlight -hosted by the Office of Secretary General’s Envoy on Youth, and co-hosted by UNESCO-UNEVOC and WorldSkills-, will showcase the positive impact of youth skills development on societies and economies, and empower young people to meet the challenges of an evolving global landscape through Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). The outcomes of the discussion will feed into the high-level panel.

The #YouthLead Innovation Spotlight is a biennial celebration of innovative youth-led solutions. lt brings together young innovators and solutions makers together with United Nations, policymakers, civil society, and industry leaders. The Spotlight presents opportunities for multistakeholder dialogue and collaboration for the use of innovation and technology to achieve Sustainable Development Goals and engage young people as equal partners in achieving this ambition.

The Spotlight also addresses the fact that despite the growth of digital technology and innovation, many young innovators from the vulnerable and marginalized community are still left behind. Young women, LGBTQI youth, indigenous youth, and young people with disability face greater challenges in hardly receiving equal opportunities, recognition, or acknowledgment for their work because of the unique challenges they face. #YouthLead Innovation Spotlight aims to be a space and platform that provides special highlights and emphasis on the great innovative work of young people who identify with these groups.

It features 3 main segments that include: (a) Brainstorm Discussion, (b) #YouthSolves Solutions presentation and (c) Multistakeholder Discussion. A #YouthLead Innovation Spotlight will be organized ahead of World Youth Skills Day 2023, the conversation will be taken forward to a high-level panel, ensuring that the momentum and insights gained at the Spotlight continue to shape our discussions.

On 14 July, 11:14am – 11:50am, Francesc Pedró, Director of UNESCO IESALC will attend the Multi-stakeholder Panel to discuss “How should higher education evolve or transform to achieve the future that young people want”.
