Greening Higher Education Institutions: bridging SDGs 4 and 13 – ECOSOC Youth Forum 2024

In the framework of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Youth Forum 2024, interested parties are invited to the side event Greening Higher Education Institutions: bridging SDGs 4 (Quality Education) and 13 (Climate Action), co-organized by UNESCO IESALC and UNOSSC (United Nations Office of South South Cooperation) in collaboration with the UNESCO SDG4 Youth & Student Network, UNICEF, National Geographic Learning, University of Helsinki, Education Above All, and Technological University Dublin.

The event, to take place on April 18, 2024, at 1:30 – 3:00 PM EST in the UNOSSC Office, 304 E 45th Street, FF-11th FL and online via zoom, aims to underscore the importance of educating stakeholders and communities on driving a green transformation and fostering youth-led projects in green STI for a sustainable future. Also, contributes to creating a sustainable and environmentally conscious society that lays the groundwork for a better tomorrow for future generations. By empowering education stakeholders and young people to be agents of change, we can enhance their ability to lead sustainable development efforts and combat environmental challenges effectively.

Other objectives include showcasing successful initiatives in promoting green skilling and transferring green Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) for sustainable development, exploring the role of youth and other stakeholders in driving environmental initiatives and building partnerships, discussing strategies to equip education stakeholders and create an enabling environment for green partnerships, promoting collaborations among various stakeholders to scale up green initiatives, sharing progress on the South-South University Cooperation Network and the Greening Higher education Pilot Project, and promoting initiatives on Greening Education focused on pedagogies, communities, students, and young people.
