Annual World Press Freedom Day Conference

UNESCO and the Government of Uruguay are organizing a new edition of the annual World Press Freedom Day Conference, to be held from 2 to 5 May 2022 in Punta del Este, Uruguay.
Under the theme “Journalism under Digital Siege”, the Conference will include a wide variety of sessions and events to collectively think about the most current implications and challenges on freedom of expression, access to information, safety of journalists, disinformation, the role of internet platforms, the economic viability of the media and more. Within this framework, UNESCO Montevideo promotes a program of regional events together with more than 10 allied organizations that work actively in journalism, justice, academia and civil society in the Latin American and Caribbean context.
The current global crises -health, political, environmental- make it increasingly evident that information is a precious resource for citizen coexistence and the exercise of rights: a common good. However, its production and access are at risk.
