UNESCO IESALC’s participation in #WHEC2022 | Round Table: Exploring international aid for higher education

18 May, 2022 hora: 4:15 pm - 5:30 pm

Within the framework of the UNESCO World Higher Education Conference 2022, UNESCO IESALC will take part in the Round Table: Exploring international aid for higher education: current trends and future talks at 16:15-17:30 (Spain time) on May 18, 2022.

International aid, particularly in the form of official development assistance (ODA), has the potential to assist least developed countries in stimulating economic growth, improving living standards, and building robust institutions as well as contributing towards the SDG agenda. However, when it comes to tertiary education (TE) aid, the literature is limited and global data on TE aid has not been publicly presented and analysed yet. This UNESCO IESALC report aims to fill that critical gap by providing, for the first time, a holistic overview regarding the current trends and characteristics of international aid directed to TE through a literature review, the analysis of aid flows from the Creditor Reporting System and the use of additional indicators.

Panelists: Michael Harms, Deputy Secretary General of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), Germany; Hilde Elin Haaland-Kramer, Head of Department, Norwegian Directorate for Higher Education and Skills; Joanna Newman, Chief Executive and Secretary General, The Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) and Mark Vlek de Coningh, Team Leader, Partnerships & Programme, Dutch Organization for Internationalization in Education (Nuffic), Netherlands.

Moderator: Victoria Galán-Muros, UNESCO IESALC’s Chief of Research and Analysis.

Location: Fira Room 8
