Abstract
In the editorial of this special 30th anniversary edition (Volume 33, No 1, 2021) Norberto Fernández Lamarra, general editor of the Journal celebrates the analytical contribution of the past and the outline of future perspectives for higher education in Latin America and the Caribbean. "A very valuable contribution in view of the next World Conference on Higher Education (WHEC2021)". He also mentions the current context of the COVID-19 pandemic and its catalytic effect on intellectual work: "As a paradox of the times, the immobility derived from the isolation and social distancing that is imposed, mutates into intellectual hyperproductivity, as expressed by the 15 papers that accompany this volume, which adds to a profuse multiplicity of publications and academic activities that, through virtual platforms, have been deployed in the last year, keeping alive the systematic thinking and reflection of the academic community within each of the countries and also internationally".
