SUMMARY:Implementing the Global Convention: An international webinar on recognition in higher education
DESCRIPTION:Despite the difficulties created by the COVID-19 pandemic\, the last two year has shown remarkable developments in international student mobility policy and cooperation. Not only was the Global Recognition Convention adopted unanimously by UNESCO’s 193 Member States in late 2019 – regional recognition conventions have undergone important developments that also underpin the implementation of the Global Convention. \nThe potentially disastrous consequences of the pandemic for academic mobility underline the importance of putting in place efficient mechanisms at both regional and global level for fair\, transparent\, and non-discriminatory recognition of foreign qualifications. To provide advice for the implementation of the Global Convention\, UNESCO recently published a short Practical Guide to Recognition\, that can be used by policy makers\, recognition bodies and universities. \nNearly one year after Norway joined the Global Convention\, NOKUT invites to a webinar on the implementation of the Global Convention. The webinar will introduce UNESCO’s “Practical Guide”\, and draw attention to the relationship between the Global Convention and regional recognition conventions: how do they work together\, what are the differences\, and how can the regionals reinforce the Global Convention – and vice versa? \nProgramme \n09.30: Opening and practicalities \n• Helén Sophie Haugen\, Head of Information Section\, NOKUT (moderator). \n09:35: Welcome. \n• Kristin Vinje\, Chief Executive Officer\, NOKUT. \n09:45: Introduction to the Global Convention and the Practical Guide to Recognition. \n• Peter Wells\, Chief of Higher Education\, UNESCO. \n10:00: Implementing the Global Convention in the Tokyo Recognition Convention area. \n• Jane Azurin\, Head of Australian National Information Centre. \n10:15: Implementing the Global Convention in the Lisbon Recognition Convention area. \n• Gunnar Vaht\, Head of Estonian Academic Recognition Information Centre. \n10.30: Joining the Global Convention – NOKUT’s experience one year after. \n• Dag Hovdhaugen\, Director of Foreign Education\, NOKUT. \n10.45: Discussion/Q&A. \n11.15: End. \n  \nMore information and registration here.  \n  \nRelated news.  \nNew Regional Convention \nRegional Convention on the Recognition of Studies\, Title and Degrees in Higher Education (YouTube video) \nRegional Convention for the Recognition of Studies: Course

SUMMARY:UNESCO World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development
DESCRIPTION:In preparation of the UNESCO World Conference on ESD\, UNESCO is organizing a series of online workshops on the transformative power of Education for sustainable development for redesigning a more sustainable and just world beyond Covid-19. The conference is organized by UNESCO in cooperation with and generously supported by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research of Germany\, and with the German Commission for UNESCO as advisory partner. \nEducation for Sustainable Development (ESD) is crucial to empower people to have the knowledge\, skills\, values and attitudes to meet these crises and other sustainable development challenges. The new ESD for 2030 framework provides us with an important opportunity to move away from the disastrous path of climate and other emergencies by transforming our societies through education. \nThe UNESCO World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development will highlight the crucial role of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) as a key enabler for the successful achievement of all SDGs\, the COVID rebuilding process\, and to create momentum for strengthening ESD in policy and practice. \nThe UNESCO World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development will be held as a virtual conference from 17 to 19 May 2021. \nFurther information on participation and how to register for the Conference will be made available very shortly on this website. \nMore information on UNESCO website.
