3 November 2021 hora: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
“Racism in the academy: Global perspectives on higher education and the struggle for race equality” is an UNESCO IESALC event which will be held on November 3rd from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. (Caracas time) with the support of the University of Bath, UK, and the Universidad Nacional de Tres de Febrero (UNTREF), Argentina.
Higher education has historically played and continues to play a role in the naturalization and reproduction of racism – and it can also play in eradicating it. To advance towards racial equality, the multiple ways in which racism operates within higher education systems and institutions need to be confronted. This involves both critically engagement with the racist and colonial legacies that are still present in today’s systems as well as identifying and promoting strategies and solutions to tackle racism in this academy. This webinar examines global perspectives on higher education and the struggle for race equality. UNESCO IESALC has the privilege to bring into conversation Daniel Mato (Universidad Nacional de Tres de Febrero, Argentina) and Rajani Naidoo (University of Bath, UK) two leading scholars of higher education who have also championed initiatives to bring about positive change across a range of international contexts. Senior Policy Analyst at UNESCO-IESALC, Emma Sabzalieva, will be the moderator of the event.
The conversation will be in English with simultaneous translation to Spanish.
