THE Latin America Universities Summit 2021

13 July, 2021 hora: 8:30 am - 5:00 pm

On 13th and 14th will be THE Latin American Universities Summit 2021 to examine how the higher education sector across the region can develop strategies to build capacity, adapt to digitisation, increase strategic impact and improve public appreciation of universities’ role in progressing society.

Hosted in partnership with the University of São Paulo, this online summit will bring together leaders from across the region and their institutional partners across the world to focus on the internationalisation of universities within South and Central America, and how universities can strengthen their work in the humanities and social sciences, reinforce their partnerships with the private sector, and reposition themselves as agents for positive change.

The summit will also feature the exclusive live reveal of the THE Latin America University Rankings 2021, accompanied by a detailed masterclass examining the latest data.

Exclusive UNESCO IESALC report launch: Has the pandemic transformed teaching in higher education forever in Latin America?

The UNESCO International Institute for Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (IESALC) will launch a new report exploring the changes operated in higher education teaching in the region because of the shift towards remote learning. The report, based on survey data, explores mainstream trends all over the region and presents also some innovative avenues. It concludes with some insights into the possible long-lasting effects of these trends and warns about unintended consequences both for quality and equity.

Speakers

Francesc Pedró
Director of UNESCO IESALC

Challenges in a changing society
This concluding panel will seek to set the agenda for progressive reform in Latin American higher education. We will bring university leaders together to identify what are the greatest medium-term challenges for higher education in the region and ask how leaders, policy-makers and investors can seek to respond.

With limited resources, what must be the focus of investment in order to create and maintain a dynamic and comprehensive higher education sector that meets the needs of the region over the next ten years?

How important is it for public universities to encourage entrepreneurship and invention – or is that a role now for private education providers?
Should universities be reacting to a changing society – or proactively designing the Latin America of the future?
